Hydrographics is a unique solution for your demanding decorative needs.  Also referred to as Immersion or Water Transfer Printing, hydrographics is the process of applying decorative film to rigid and semi-rigid products without leaving wrinkles, air bubbles, or blemishes.  Substrates are typically plastic or metal, but can be a variety of other options – if it can be painted, it can be dipped.  The process typically includes the following 4 steps:

  • Pre-treat the plastic or other acceptable substrate
  • Apply a base coat
  • Apply the decorative film
  • Apply a top clear coat

Why FinishTEK Hydrographic Finishing?

  • Our automated lines give us the ability to support high volume programs and exceed our customer’s quality requirements
  • We continue to invest in our operation to improve process control and meet unique customer specifications
  • FinishTEK also has a manual tank for low volume, prototypes, and experimental parts
  • The size of our tanks and automation allows us to finish both small and large parts
  • Hundreds of graphic patterns (carbon fiber, camouflage, marbles, metals, wood grains, etc.) are available, as well as the opportunity to create custom patterns
  • Hydrographic finishing provides complete 360° coverage over corners and in the crevasses of the most difficult three dimensional parts
  • Hydrographics meets the most demanding standards for hardness, UV resistance, chemical resistance, and adhesion to the substrate

FinishTEK has extensive skill and experience with 2K urethane paint applications. These capabilities include:

  • State-of-the-art proportioning equipment developed with equipment manufacturers to control the painting process.
  • Extensive experience applying 2K urethanes to automotive, consumer goods, electronics, and recreational parts.
  • Fully automated dual 6 axis Fanuc robots

UV Curables / Hard Coating

The UV Curable paint system hard coats plastic substrates with a scratch and chemical resistant coating for durability and aesthetics. This process allows the finish to be cured or hardened with the exposure of Ultra Violet (UV) light to speed the manufacturing process and reduce program cost.

Assembly / Value Add

FinishTEK provides light assembly services that are designed to provide fast turnaround, competitive prices, and quality workmanship. We can apply the decorative finish and the assembly of your product under one roof saving you time and money.  Examples of our assembly processes are listed below.

  • Sonic Welding
  • Solvent Bonding
  • Screw Insertion
  • Heat Staking
  • Label Attachment
  • Bar Coding
  • Packaging

Pad Printing

Pad printing has the capability to print on three-dimensional objects and compound angles.

  • 4 and 5-color pad printing
  • Tampo and Trans Tech machines
  • Capacity for low to very high volume
  • Plasma Pretreatment capability
  • UV Printing Inks capability

EMI / RFI Shielding

FinishTEK’s EMI/RFI shielding makes plastic enclosures impervious to electronic interference, thus protecting internal equipment. Shielding also protects external electronic devices from electrical interference caused by emissions from your device.

Laser Marking & Etching

Laser marking or etching is a computer-driven, environmentally friendly process. Our laser marking process is suitable for many backlit products that require precision including, but not limited to, switches and instrument panels.
